'WHAT IS AN AMERICAN?' - CITIZEN DIPLOMACY INITIATIVE

'WHAT IS AN AMERICAN?' - CITIZEN DIPLOMACY INITIATIVE - This cross-cultural initiative was supported by the US State Department English Language Programs and collaboration with the Fulbright Scholarship Program and Peace Corps.

In 2017 I launched a dynamic and interactive discussion panel on America’s evolving understanding of national identity in both its current and historical contexts.  This cultural diplomacy initiative was developed for students at universities throughout Moldova as a way to dispel stereotypes, counter propaganda, and build bridges between countries.

This discussion panel addressed issues of American national identity and the complicated role immigration plays in its current and historic context by exploring issues of race, religion, politics, and geography.  It was hosted by an expert team of Fulbright Scholars, English Language Fellows, Peace Corps Volunteers, and international educators to discuss the facts and fictions behind American cultural cliches promoted by Hollywood, international media, and EFL textbooks in an entertaining and nuanced discussion and Q&A session.
