WHITE CITY WORDSMITHS CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP - A Balkan Writers Project initiative in partnership with the US Embassy in Belgrade, and the US State Department English Language Programs
The White City Wordsmiths is a Belgrade-based creative writing workshop I created and coordinated from 2014-2016. It was comprised of young, highly talented university students writing poetry and prose in English.
Meeting after hours at the American Corner, the White City Wordsmiths became a tribe of writers - shouting, laughing, and arguing over each other’s works with an infectious and inspiring energy. They challenged each other on their plot lines, brainstormed the characters’ motivations, debated on best collocations, and pushed every writer toward new and undiscovered creativity in English.
What started as a modest creative writing project supported by the US embassy in Belgrade quickly surpassed everyone’s expectations. The original goal was to produce a printed book and it quickly expanded to include an e-book, and then a second volume the following year with public readings in multiple countries throughout the Balkans.
